Gyeongsangbuk-do to build food industry cluster with shared factory
Gyeongsangbuk-do plans a food industry cluster to strengthen the region’s food businesses using local farm products.
The province will work with universities, research institutes and other organisations to support companies from product development through production and sales.
A 5.6 billion won shared factory is planned for Andong, at the Gyeongbuk Bio Industry Institute in Pungsan-eup.
Companies will share production facilities, reducing the need for each business to invest in its own equipment.
The factory will focus on liquid foods, including carbonated juice drinks, extracts and concentrates, and will support small production runs before products go on sale.
On November 3, the province, Andong City and regional institutions signed an agreement to cooperate on research, technology and business support; the project was selected for a national pilot programme in April.
