Jakarta poverty rate fell to 3.96% in March 2026

The Jakarta provincial government says poverty fell to 3.96% in March 2026, from 4.03% in September 2025.

The statistics bureau counted about 432,620 people living in poverty in the city, and said the rate was below 4% for the first time in its records.

The city says education, health and housing support helps vulnerable households afford basic needs and avoid falling below the poverty line.

Its programmes include school and university assistance, help with private-school fees, health services and public housing.

The government also points to job training linked to about 214 companies, covering skills such as sewing, make-up and foreign languages.

Despite the fall, income inequality remains a challenge, with the Gini ratio around 0.435, and the city says its work is not finished.
