Çimsa’s third-quarter profit beats market expectations

Turkish cement maker Çimsa reported third-quarter net profit of 1.77 billion lira, beating market expectations by 3.5%.

Its revenue was 14.92 billion lira, close to forecasts and up 2.3% from a year earlier after adjusting for inflation.

Overseas sales grew while domestic sales fell: international sales revenue rose 15%, while revenue from Turkey dropped 20%.

Overseas sales made up 69% of gross revenue, up from 61% a year earlier, helped by higher white cement sales and a US grinding plant.

Operating profit weakened slightly, with earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation down 1.7% and its margin falling to 20.3%, partly because of higher energy costs.

Lower financing and tax expenses helped lift net profit, while a one-time gain from selling a ready-mix concrete plant was largely offset by a loss linked to Sabancı Holding shares; nine-month net profit rose 30% to 3.9 billion lira.
