Turkish court acquits Sadettin Saran and Ela Rümeysa Cebeci

An Istanbul court acquitted businessman Sadettin Saran and presenter Ela Rümeysa Cebeci of drug trafficking charges on November 4.

The case accused them of supplying drugs, and prosecutors asked for prison terms of at least 10 years for each.

Cebeci attended the hearing, while Saran did not.

She denied supplying or using drugs in Turkey and said messages between the two were private jokes and references to film dialogue.

She said she had tried liquid cannabis once in the United States, where she said it was legal.

Cebeci also disputed the meaning of test results and a photo that an expert report identified as showing an electronic cigarette containing THC.

The court ruled that the alleged drug-trafficking offence had not been established, and the two were acquitted.
