Italy’s new road code adds tougher penalties for modified min cars

Italy’s Cabinet has approved a new road code with tougher penalties for modified min cars.

These small vehicles, known as light quadricycles, are often used by young people and have a legal speed limit of 45 km/h.

Under the new text, drivers who alter their construction features face a fine and vehicle immobilization, plus a 30-day ban on driving the vehicle.

The code also allows people to request personalized alphanumeric license plates.

Proposals to let 17-year-olds obtain a category B driving license and to penalize pedestrians for using phones while crossing were removed.

The text was approved by the Cabinet, but the sources do not say what steps or timetable come next.
