Cho Kyung-tae criticizes remarks about late President Roh
South Korean lawmaker Cho Kyung-tae criticized independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon for bringing up allegations that late President Roh Moo-hyun and his family received luxury watches and tens of billions of won.
Cho said political debate should not intrude on personal matters involving the dead.
He also criticized fellow ruling-party lawmaker Kim Tae-gyu for suggesting a film called “The Truth of Owl Rock” during a parliamentary dispute.
The name refers to the place where Roh died.
Cho recently visited Roh’s grave in Bongha Village, in Gimhae, and said he was not trying to blame Kim personally.
Cho said a politician’s policies can be criticized, but mocking a person’s death is wrong.
He ruled out returning to the Democratic Party, saying it was not an attractive party and needed to reflect on itself.
Cho is suspended from party membership for two and a half years, and currently cannot run as a People Power Party candidate in the 2028 general election; he is also expected to visit former President Park Chung-hee’s grave soon.
Cho Kyung-tae said it was wrong for Han Dong-hoon to raise allegations involving late President Roh Moo-hyun and his family.
Cho also criticized a remark by Kim Tae-kyu about making a film titled “The Truth of Owl Rock,” saying it crossed a line.
Cho said political figures may criticize a deceased leader’s policies but should not mock or speak harshly about the person’s death.
He made the comments in a radio interview on October 12.
Cho said he did not consider the Democratic Party an attractive option when asked about returning to it.

Roh-related allegations
Cho Kyung-tae
Cho said raising allegations involving Roh and his family crossed a boundary and was wrong.
Han Dong-hoon
Han raised again allegations that Roh and his family received luxury watches and tens of billions of won.
I do not think it is right to touch even areas that should not be crossed.
Criticizing policies pursued by the deceased is possible. Mocking the death itself or speaking harshly about it is neither a politician’s duty nor a human being’s duty.
Looking at the Democratic Party now, it does not look like such an attractive party.
