Carrick says his future is not important ahead of Leeds clash

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick says his job security is not on his mind before the team visits Leeds United.

United have gone five games without a win, leaving Carrick under pressure ahead of Sunday’s match at Elland Road.

He says the focus is on winning games and helping the club, not on protecting his position.

Former United midfielder Nicky Butt said Carrick had told him before taking the job that management was not for him.

Carrick rejected Butt’s account, saying United is the best role he could have and that he is enjoying it.

The match comes amid other tensions at the club, including defender Lisandro Martínez’s criticism of director of football Jason Wilcox.

United’s result against Leeds could intensify questions about Carrick’s suitability, though Carrick says he is focused on getting the team back to winning.
