Cyberpunk 2077 movie will tell a new story in the same world
CD Projekt Red says its upcoming live-action Cyberpunk movie will not retell the game.
The film is being made with Paramount Pictures and will tell a story in the world of Cyberpunk.
That means it is not planned as a direct screen version of the game’s story, which follows the character V. The approach resembles Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, an animated series that told an original story in the same setting.
Edgerunners drew praise and helped renew interest in the game after its troubled launch.
A new film could also bring attention back to the franchise, though its cast and crew details are still limited.
More information is expected at an appropriate time, but no release date is given.
CD Projekt Red says the Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film will tell a story set in the game’s world rather than adapt the game’s plot directly.
The project is being developed with Paramount Pictures.
CD Projekt Red CEO Michał Nowakowski said the film will not be a one-to-one translation of the game’s story.
Details about the film’s cast and crew remain limited.
Previous reports say producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is attached to the project.
