Swiss nursing umbrella group Alliance Care faces bankruptcy
Alliance Care, Switzerland’s nursing umbrella group, is facing bankruptcy.
The group was formed to represent nursing professionals, including across cantons, as well as other care workers.
Its planned restructuring aimed to combine existing nursing sections under a national organisation and bring in new professional groups.
The project came with a million-franc consulting bill, while membership losses and financial problems were already affecting parts of the organisation.
The crisis comes as lawmakers prepare to debate measures to improve care workers’ conditions, following Switzerland’s 2021 approval of the nursing initiative.
The group is expected to confirm its bankruptcy, which could leave nurses without a strong national voice in Bern during those discussions.
The future organisation representing nursing professionals in Solothurn is also in question.
