Google says detachable-keyboard Googlebooks are coming soon
At its Android Dev Summit, Google said detachable-keyboard Googlebooks are coming soon.
Googlebooks are a new line of large-screen devices, and the first models went on sale in October through hardware partners including Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo.
Most are traditional laptops, while Acer’s model is a convertible that folds into tablet or tent mode.
A detachable would be a tablet with a keyboard that can be removed, adding another design to the lineup.
Google still needs to address software limits: the home screen, app overview and app tray work only in landscape, although full-screen apps can open in portrait.
Lenovo is tipped to make the first detachable, but Google has not confirmed the device’s hardware or release date.
The announcement also leaves open how Googlebook OS will fit alongside Android on future tablets.
Google confirmed at the Android Dev Summit 2026 that Googlebooks with detachable keyboards are coming soon.
The new devices will join the clamshell and convertible designs already available.
Lenovo may be the first manufacturer to launch a detachable Googlebook, but Google has not confirmed a device or launch date.
Lenovo keyboard and stylus accessories have received FCC certification, and the keyboard is branded for Googlebook.
Software limitations remain, including some interface features that work only in landscape mode.
