Hoffenheim beat Gladbach 2-1, leaving them without a point after six games

Hoffenheim beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-1 in a Bundesliga match between the league’s bottom two teams.

The result left Gladbach with six defeats and no points after six games, while Hoffenheim climbed from 17th to 14th.

Bambasé Conté put Hoffenheim ahead in the 11th minute, and 17-year-old Wael Mohya equalised for Gladbach in the 49th.

Alexander Prass scored the winner five minutes later, restoring Hoffenheim’s lead.

Gladbach’s run is among the worst starts in Bundesliga history; only three other teams had lost their first six games, according to one account.

The result deepens Gladbach’s relegation concerns, while Hoffenheim ended a run of four straight defeats in all competitions.

Gladbach’s coach Alexander Blessin said the team must keep working, and Hoffenheim coach Christian Ilzer called the win an important step.
