12 Voepass-linked people face charges over crash that killed 62
A Voepass plane crash killed 62 people when an aircraft fell in Vinhedo, in Brazil’s São Paulo state, on 9 August 2024.
A federal court has accepted criminal charges against 12 people linked to the airline, including senior managers and two other employees.
The charges concern aviation safety and an air transport accident; four other people investigated by police made agreements and were not charged in this case.
Prosecutors allege Voepass’s way of operating put cost savings ahead of aircraft maintenance, with poor repairs and pressure to leave faults out of records.
They also say the plane’s de-icing system had known problems and that the aircraft was assigned to fly despite warnings of severe icing along its route.
The case will now proceed in court, where the defendants’ criminal responsibility will be examined.
