Hanwha Investment & Securities signs deal for Japanese securities business

South Korea’s Hanwha Investment & Securities has signed a share purchase agreement for the securities business of Japan’s GI Capital Management.

The deal is intended to give Hanwha a local base in Japan’s capital market.

Hanwha already operates in Southeast Asia through businesses in Vietnam, Singapore and Indonesia.

It says GI Capital Management’s specialist staff and network of local institutional investors will help strengthen its traditional finance business.

The company also plans to look for opportunities to expand digital businesses.

The agreement has been signed, but the announcement does not say when the transaction will be completed.
