Greenpeace Protest Urges Indonesia to Act on Climate Crisis

On October 20, Greenpeace Indonesia activists unfurled protest banners at Jakarta’s Selamat Datang Monument to mark two years of the Prabowo-Gibran administration.

The banners urged the government to tackle the climate crisis and highlighted worsening disasters and living costs.

Greenpeace said climate-related disasters, including prolonged haze, harm people’s health and livelihoods, with vulnerable workers hit hardest.

State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said the government is working to fight forest fires, deploying ground crews, aircraft and volunteers.

He said firefighting and weather modification efforts are under way in South Sumatra and three Kalimantan provinces, and that rain has started in some districts.

Prasetyo also said companies found responsible could lose their licenses, while the government pursues legal action and public education.
