Man dies after stabbing in Nice as police secure hospital

A 27-year-old man died after a stabbing in eastern Nice on Thursday, October 22.

The violence happened in the Fenoglio de Briga–Louis-Braille area, where two other people were also injured.

The injured people were taken to Pasteur Hospital, where access to the emergency department was closed after a person carrying a machete was reported.

Police secured the hospital and the surrounding area; accounts differed on whether suspects were inside the hospital.

Authorities opened an investigation into aggravated murder, while the circumstances of the violence remained unclear.

At least five people were arrested, according to one local report, though another reported one arrest at an earlier point.

Police also found a vehicle with a machete and traces of blood, and the investigation is ongoing.
