Serbia’s Student List says it will not sanction Russia
Serbia’s opposition Student List says it will not impose sanctions on Russia if it forms the next government.
The pledge was made by Jovo Bakic, a representative of the movement, after snap parliamentary elections on October 25.
With 96.47% of vote tally reports processed, the electoral commission said Student List had 52.57% and United Serbia, led by former president Aleksandar Vucic, had 39.27%.
Bakic said Russia was an important historical partner and that sanctions would mainly carry symbolic weight for Russia.
The pledge also challenges the EU’s demand that Serbia stop receiving Russian energy, with Bakic saying Serbia should act in its national interests.
The next step is forming a government, though the sources do not say when that will happen.
