Claude designs 35,000 antibody candidates for potential food allergy treatment

Anthropic’s Claude generated about 35,000 antibody designs in a month with drug developer Divergence Labs.

The work aims to create a treatment for food allergies by targeting IgE, an antibody involved in allergic reactions.

Lab tests found designs that bind IgE or detach it from immune cells, including three that appeared to remove more IgE than a standard medication.

The researchers have not yet combined those two functions into one drug, and the potential treatment has not been tested in people.

Existing treatments mainly neutralize IgE in the bloodstream, while Divergence Labs is trying to remove it from immune cells.

The results are part of Anthropic’s collaborations with drug developers to use AI in medicine research.

Divergence Labs plans to develop a molecule combining both functions, but further testing will be needed to establish safety and effectiveness in humans.
