Inter beat Fiorentina 2-1 after late comeback and penalty controversy

Inter beat Fiorentina 2-1 at San Siro in a Serie A match after trailing until the 90th minute.

Fiorentina took the lead through Jimenez in the 65th minute, but Marcus Thuram equalised in the 91st minute.

In the 68th minute, Inter appealed for a penalty after Viery challenged Thuram in the area, but referee Mariani let play continue and VAR did not call him to review it.

A later foul on Thuram brought Inter a penalty in stoppage time, when Valdepenas pulled him down in the area.

Zielinski scored from the spot in the 98th minute to complete Inter’s comeback.

The two decisions drew attention to the disputed earlier challenge, which football analyst Luca Marelli said should have been a penalty.

Viery is very late, he intervenes on Thuram and commits a foul. I understand the high threshold, but this is a very clear penalty.
