Russia’s minimum wage set to reach 28,935 rubles in 2027

Russia’s federal minimum wage is set to reach 28,935 rubles a month in 2027.

The minimum wage is the lowest monthly pay an employer may legally offer for work under an employment contract.

Economist Igor Balynin says that, after three increases, it will have risen 50.37% over three years.

He compares that with accumulated inflation of 23.51%, including a forecast of 6.8% inflation for 2026.

But faster minimum-wage growth does not guarantee higher real incomes, because prices for some goods can rise more quickly.

A higher minimum wage can also raise the minimum amounts for some sick-leave and maternity benefits, and may contribute to wage growth.

The 28,935-ruble figure is included in the draft federal budget for 2027, while the government says the minimum wage is planned to reach 35,000 rubles by 2030.
