Ohtani practices against a pitching machine set unusually close

The Dodgers trained in Milwaukee before opening a best-of-seven National League Championship Series against the Brewers.

Shohei Ohtani and other Dodgers hitters practised against a pitching machine set about five metres in front of the mound.

They moved closer to the machine as they took swings.

Ohtani took 71 swings and hit six balls over the fence.

The team used the close-range drill to prepare for Brewers starter Jacob Misiorowski, who throws very fast pitches.

The Dodgers' hitting coach said the drill was meant to sharpen players' reactions and activate their eyes and brains.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto practised pitching in the bullpen ahead of Game 2, while Roki Sasaki threw and prepared to be available as a reliever.
