Rahul Gandhi safe after convoy collision on Purvanchal Expressway

Rahul Gandhi’s convoy was involved in a collision on the Purvanchal Expressway in Sultanpur district, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday.

At least four vehicles and an ambulance were involved, and Gandhi was safe because his vehicle was ahead of the crash site.

Some Congress members and security personnel were reportedly injured; a video report said no one was seriously hurt.

Gandhi had travelled to Lucknow and was due to appear before a special court in Sultanpur, which was scheduled to issue its verdict in a defamation case against him that day.

The case stems from a 2018 complaint by a local BJP leader, who accused Gandhi of making objectionable comments about Amit Shah during that year’s Karnataka Assembly election campaign.

Gandhi has denied making defamatory remarks, and the case has been ongoing for years.

The court was due to deliver its verdict on October 26, after an earlier date was rescheduled.
