Mexico foreign minister cites 52% fall in homicides over two years

At a conference in Madrid ahead of the Ibero-American Summit, Mexico’s foreign minister, Roberto Velasco, spoke about security and trade.

Velasco said Mexico’s homicide rate fell 52% in two years.

He described Mexico’s trade relationship with the United States as extremely complex and diversified.

Mexico’s close economic integration with the United States and Canada sets it apart from much of Latin America.

The two countries make products together and share supply chains across many sectors, as well as exchanging services.

Under the US-Mexico-Canada trade agreement, Mexico is seeking faster investment permits, infrastructure investment and security plans.
