EPFO launches WhatsApp services and automatic settlement for small inactive accounts
India’s EPFO has launched a WhatsApp service for members to check their provident fund accounts.
It offers account balances, passbook information and details of the last five transactions.
Members can also get guidance for the PMVBRY employment scheme.
The service aims to make routine account information easier to access without visiting an EPFO office.
Another change covers inactive accounts with balances of up to ₹1,000.
Eligible Aadhaar-verified accounts can be settled automatically, so members do not need to file a separate claim.
EPFO will first verify the member’s identity and bank account, then begin the settlement process.
The reports give different instructions about how to access the WhatsApp service, so members should confirm the official number through EPFO’s verified channels before messaging.
EPFO launched WhatsApp services and automatic settlement for eligible inactive accounts at its 74th Foundation Day event in New Delhi on November 1, 2026.
Members can use the verified WhatsApp service to check their PF balance, view their passbook information and see their last five transactions.
The service also offers guidance for members dealing with requirements under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana.
Eligible inactive accounts with balances of up to ₹1,000 can be settled automatically after identity and bank-account checks, without a separate claim.
The automatic settlement is expected to cover about 100,000 accounts and ₹5 crore in balances.
