Black Canyon finds iron and manganese beyond Wandanya resource
Black Canyon found iron and manganese beyond its existing resource at the Wandanya project in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.
Drilling outlined iron mineralisation across 1.8km and manganese across about 1km north of the resource.
The September resource estimate included 23.6 million tonnes of manganese and 12.5 million tonnes of iron.
The new manganese results include several seams, but more drilling is needed to test their continuity and whether they can add to future resource estimates.
The northern area is the more promising follow-up target, while results south of the resource were generally weaker.
A scoping study is due in December 2026 and will assess options for producing manganese and iron, including processing lower-grade manganese; commercial performance and project economics have yet to be established.
Black Canyon has found iron and manganese mineralisation north of the existing resource at its Wandanya project in Western Australia’s Pilbara.
Wide-spaced drilling outlined iron mineralisation over 1.8km of strike and manganese across about 1km.
The company said the results point to potential resource growth, with multiple manganese seams identified in northern holes.
Results to the south were less encouraging, with generally thin iron intersections and low-grade manganese.
A scoping study for Wandanya remains scheduled for completion in December 2026.
- Who
- Black Canyon, an Australian mining company.
- What
- Drilling found iron and manganese mineralisation beyond the existing Wandanya resource.
- When
- The results were reported on 4 November 2026; the drilling campaign’s dates are not stated.
- Where
- The Wandanya project in Western Australia’s Pilbara.
- Why
- The findings may support further resource growth and provide additional targets for exploration.
This story does not have two clearly opposing sides.
Black Canyon established a maiden resource of 23.6Mt at 25.8% manganese and a separate 12.5Mt at 54.9% iron.
The company reported new iron and manganese results from drilling beyond the existing resource footprint.
Black Canyon’s Wandanya scoping study is scheduled for completion.

What people are saying
The extension drill program demonstrates the potential to delineate further mineralisation beyond the base case Wandanya mineral resource
From an exploration perspective we have previously only considered a single seam of manganese but now we have identified several seams this opens up our exploration model that may just find us the next Wandanya in the region.
