BBVA’s US corporate loans rise to €32.5 billion, its largest market

BBVA has made the United States its largest market for loans to big companies through its corporate and investment banking unit.

The bank had €32.5 billion in loans to US companies after lending there grew 63.9% in the first half of the year.

That amount is higher than its €30.1 billion in loans across the UK and the rest of Europe, and its €26.5 billion to Spanish companies.

The US passed Spain in 2025 and has now moved ahead of the UK and the rest of Europe combined.

The shift reflects BBVA’s priority of growing its US business, where it provides loans and other services such as bond sales and currency transactions.

BBVA’s total corporate and investment banking loans reached €153.4 billion, up 38.5% in the first half, but the bank has not disclosed the US business’s separate revenue or profit.

The bank has said the US remains a priority for growth, but no further plans or timetable are given.
