Lula says fiscal discipline is needed to attract investment to Brazil

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva called for fiscal and legal responsibility to attract foreign investment.

He spoke at a meeting of the National Council for the Industrialization of Critical and Strategic Minerals, in his first official event since being re-elected.

Lula said investors need to see that projects can deliver benefits and financial returns, and that Brazil’s economy is in order.

His remarks come amid criticism of the government’s management of public finances, including concerns about debt, the budget and the pace of spending cuts.

The council selected 27 minerals for special government attention, including lithium, copper, rare earths and iron.

The council was created in September 2026 as part of the government’s work on critical and strategic minerals.

The sources do not say what steps will follow the selection.
