Several Spanish banks raise mortgage rates in October

Several Spanish banks raised rates on some mortgages in October, making some home loans more expensive.

The changes affect people in Spain who are considering taking out a mortgage in the coming weeks.

Rising Euribor and a 2.50% interest rate are shaping the market; the European Central Bank raised its rate to help control inflation.

ING raised rates on fixed and mixed mortgages, while Bankinter increased rates across its fixed, mixed and variable offers.

Kutxabank also raised its variable mortgage rate for a second month in a row, while Ibercaja led the fixed-rate ranking compiled by iAhorro.

Borrowers are advised to compare and negotiate, as mortgage terms can change from one month to the next.
