Indonesia’s stock index falls more than 1% at Thursday’s open

Indonesia’s Jakarta Composite Index opened down 1.52% at 5,247 on Thursday morning.

The index tracks shares listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, and hundreds of shares were lower at the open.

By 9 a.m., another account put it at 5,256, down 1.35%, showing it had moved up slightly from its opening level.

The fall follows sharp losses in recent months, with one account reporting the index was down 39.18% so far in 2026.

Analysts disagreed on the near-term outlook: one saw room for a rebound but warned of further losses, while another said a decline may continue after the index tested resistance.

One analyst said holding above 4,972 could limit the correction; a break below it could expose the index to further declines.

Investors are also watching market policy responses and broader financial conditions, but the accounts do not specify a next step for the index.

As long as IHSG holds above 4,972, the correction is expected to be limited and the minor uptrend has a chance to continue. However, if it breaks that level, the index could continue its downtrend toward 4,784.
