Voters back abortion protections and voter ID measures in state ballots
Voters in dozens of states decided nearly 150 statewide ballot measures during Tuesday’s midterm elections.
The measures covered issues including abortion, voting rules, redistricting, taxes and transgender rights.
After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v.
Wade in 2022, states gained more power over abortion law, and voters in Nevada and Virginia approved constitutional protections for reproductive rights.
Missouri voters rejected a measure that would have removed abortion protections, while Idaho voters rejected a proposal to create a right to abortion.
Voters in several states approved stricter voter ID rules and citizenship requirements, while Virginians backed restoring voting rights to people convicted of felonies after they complete their sentences.
Missouri voters blocked a Republican-drawn congressional map, while Maryland voters approved a change that could allow a new map in 2028.
