Alex DeBrincat and Red Wings finalizing seven-year, $91 million extension

The Detroit Red Wings are finalizing a seven-year, $91 million extension with right winger Alex DeBrincat.

The 28-year-old has eight points, the most on Detroit, so far this season.

A new NHL collective bargaining agreement took effect last month, and seven years is now the maximum contract term; before that, DeBrincat could have signed for eight.

He has played a full season in each of the past five years and has 296 goals and 600 points in his career.

The deal comes as Detroit sits last in the Atlantic Division with a 1-3-2 record and faces other unresolved team issues, including a trade request from Dylan Larkin and Simon Edvinsson’s unsigned status.

The extension is still being finalized, and no signing date was given.
