Luzern police seize 35 knives and dangerous items in more than 250 checks

The Luzern police seized 35 knives or dangerous items during more than 250 person checks in the city in recent weeks.

The checks focused on weapons that could be used in fights between individuals or groups in public spaces.

Police say such disputes often happen at night or on weekends, sometimes when people have been drinking alcohol or using drugs.

The checks were intended as a preventive effort to reduce violence involving knives and other dangerous items.

At the Lozärner Määs fair, officers also used a stand to warn visitors about carrying knives when going out.

Police advise people not to carry knives or other dangerous items in public, and say future checks will keep focusing on them.
