Former Chiefs defensive end Allen Bailey dies at 37

Former NFL defensive end Allen Bailey has died at 37, prompting tributes from the Kansas City Chiefs, where he spent most of his career.

His wife found him dead at their home in Florida on Tuesday, and his family believes he died of natural causes.

Bailey was a third-round pick by Kansas City in 2011 and played eight seasons for the Chiefs before finishing his career with two seasons at the Atlanta Falcons.

He appeared in 133 games and recorded 22 sacks and 40 tackles for loss.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid called Bailey a favorite player, while quarterback Patrick Mahomes described him as a valued teammate and said former teammates would support his family.

An official cause of death had not been released as of Wednesday, and the family’s belief has not been confirmed.

Way too young, obviously. He was one of my favorite players, a great kid. I'm just sorry to see that happened to him.

A great teammate -- he's one of those glue guys on the team. He makes plays. He's not necessarily a superstar, but the guy that kind of makes everything go.
