Train driver Antonio Acedo died trying to stop a crash in Toledo

Antonio Acedo died trying to stop his train before it collided with an Iryo train near Urda, in Spain’s Toledo province.

He was driving an AVE train when the crash happened on Wednesday.

Acedo was 36 and lived in Barcelona, though he was born in Móstoles and came from a family of railway workers.

He studied photography before becoming a train driver in 2012, following his father’s profession.

He had raised concerns about working conditions and the strain on railway staff, according to people who knew him.

Acedo was also a member of the political party Izquierda Española and helped shape its transport proposals.

The collision killed Acedo and two trainees who were travelling with him, according to La Vanguardia.
