White House report says manufacturing jobs and wages have risen in 2026

A report from the White House Council of Economic Advisers says the United States added 72,000 manufacturing jobs in 2026.

It says many were in durable goods, including metal and transportation equipment.

The report links the increase to policies aimed at bringing production back to the United States, including tariffs and tax breaks for factory building and equipment.

Those tax breaks are part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which allows manufacturers to deduct eligible costs immediately.

The report says Ohio-based Jergens expanded into Illinois, and North Carolina's Ketchie Inc.

grew its workforce by 25% after buying machinery.

It also says manufacturing workers' pay has risen 7.9% since January 2025, or nearly $2,500 a year after inflation.

The report cites new semiconductor plants and investment as further examples of companies expanding production in the United States.
