Brazilian court rejects bid to make Richarlison remove island posts

A Brasília judge rejected an urgent request to make Richarlison remove posts about a property dispute on Ilha Comprida, in Angra dos Reis, Brazil.

The request came from lawyer Willer Tomaz and his company, who also sought to stop the footballer making similar comments.

The judge said the applicants had not shown that the posts were still online, and warned that a broad ban on future statements could amount to prior censorship.

The lawsuit also seeks R$200,000 in damages and a public clarification from Richarlison.

The dispute concerns who owns the island property: Richarlison says he bought it in 2020, while Tomaz has disputed the footballer's account.

The judge's decision does not settle who owns the property; it concerns only the urgent request about Richarlison's posts.

The case is expected to proceed after Richarlison is formally notified, while further requests about posts had not yet been considered.
