Syphilis cases rise among young women in Argentina
Argentina reported its highest syphilis rate among women aged 20 to 24 in 2025, with 366 cases per 100,000 people in that group.
That rate was about 68% higher than among men of the same age, according to national data cited by AHF Argentina.
AHF clinics in Buenos Aires and Rosario recorded a 26% rise in diagnoses among women between 2024 and 2025, while total diagnoses at the clinics rose 17.5%.
Syphilis is a bacterial infection that can have no visible symptoms, and a person can get it again after treatment.
Untreated infection during pregnancy can pass to the baby and cause congenital syphilis.
AHF says prevention should include easier access to condoms, testing, diagnosis, treatment and sexual health care, especially for young people.
Regular testing can help find and treat syphilis before complications or further transmission.
