Prosecutors reportedly plan to charge Netanyahu’s chief of staff over Bild leak

Prosecutors reportedly intend to indict Tzachi Braverman, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s chief of staff, over a 2024 leak of classified information to German newspaper Bild.

Braverman appeared at a hearing last month, and officials reportedly intend to charge him with fraud, breach of trust and obstruction of justice.

He is suspected of meeting Eli Feldstein, the key suspect in the leak case, and telling him an investigation was under way; Braverman allegedly said he could stop it if it involved Feldstein.

Feldstein and Netanyahu adviser Jonatan Urich have already been charged with transferring classified information with intent to harm state security.

The leaked document was an internal Hamas memo, obtained by Israeli military intelligence, that appeared to say Hamas was not interested in a hostage deal.

Media reports later said Bild had distorted the memo, which was published as Israel faced public debate over who was holding up a deal to free hostages in Gaza.

No indictment against Braverman has been filed yet, and the State Attorney’s Office and Braverman had not commented on the latest reports; he is also under a separate investigation over alleged changes to records in Netanyahu’s office.
