Farmers’ groups and activists protest India’s voter-roll revision

Farmers’ groups and the People Against SIR platform called protests across India on Friday, October 23.

They oppose the Special Intensive Revision, or SIR, of India’s electoral rolls.

They want voting rights restored to people removed from the rolls and are demanding that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar be removed and prosecuted.

The protesters say the SIR should be scrapped, while the People Against SIR platform has also called for voter lists to be reset to their pre-2024 version.

The demonstrations are planned at district and state-level centres, with a march in Delhi to the Election Commission’s office.

Delhi Police announced traffic diversions from 1 p.m.

to 5 p.m.

near Bangla Sahib Gurudwara and Jantar Mantar.

The sources do not say what action the Election Commission or the government will take in response.
