Turkey’s broadcasting regulator warns stations about phone scams
Turkey’s broadcasting regulator, RTÜK, warned broadcasters about fake callers asking them for money.
The callers contacted radio and television outlets by phone and used the names of RTÜK and its chair, Mehmet Daniş.
They reportedly described the requests as help, donations or payments for other reasons.
RTÜK said all such requests are scams and urged broadcasters not to trust people claiming to be its officials or staff.
The warning matters because the callers used the regulator’s identity to make their requests seem legitimate.
RTÜK said it has filed criminal complaints against those responsible.
