Journalist says anonymous referee letter alleges KNVB role for Nijhuis

Valentijn Driessen says he received an anonymous letter from a referee about Bas Nijhuis, a Dutch football referee who appears on the TV show Vandaag Inside.

The letter reportedly claims the KNVB uses Nijhuis as a strategic figure on the show.

Driessen raised it during a discussion about a foul by Ajax player Abdellah Ouazane on NEC’s Bryan Linssen, which referee Serdar Gözübüyük punished with a yellow card.

Nijhuis agreed that a yellow card was appropriate, prompting Driessen to make the accusation on air.

Driessen did not identify the letter’s writer or share all its claims; he said it was four pages long and that he had only read it quickly.

Nijhuis laughed but did not address the letter’s contents, and no further action or next step was reported.
