California woman to fund anti-fraud billboards featuring her dog
Laura Lee Yourex of Costa Mesa, California, pleaded guilty to registering her dog to vote.
Prosecutors said ballots were submitted in the dog Maya’s name in two elections: one was counted in the 2021 recall vote, while the 2022 primary ballot was rejected.
The recall sought to remove Governor Gavin Newsom from office, but 61.9 percent of voters opposed the recall.
Yourex agreed to pay $1,500 toward four billboards featuring Maya in an “I voted” sticker as part of her plea agreement.
The signs warn that voter fraud can lead to prosecution.
The case was dismissed after Yourex’s plea, and the billboards are set to remain along two Orange County freeways until California’s midterm election on November 3.
