Turkish pop singer Alpay buried in Ankara at 91
Turkish pop singer Alpay Nazikioğlu died aged 91 after receiving treatment in a hospital in Antalya.
He was known for songs including “Fabrika Kızı” and “Eylül'de Gel,” which are regarded as lasting works in Turkish pop music.
His family chose Ankara for the burial, while his longtime partner, Gizem Pekiner, and his manager said the funeral would be held in Bodrum.
Pekiner said Alpay had wanted to be buried in Bodrum and that she would not attend the funeral.
His legal wife and children arranged the Ankara funeral, and he was buried in the family plot at Cebeci Asri Cemetery after a ceremony at Bilkent Ahmet Hamdi Akseki Mosque.
The dispute centred on where he would be laid to rest, with his manager saying the family made the formal decision because Alpay had not legally divorced his wife.
Alpay had also hoped to give a farewell concert, but health problems meant it did not take place.
