Man dies after falling into sea near Lumio in Corsica

A man died after falling into the sea from rocks near Lumio on Thursday, October 22.

The fall happened by the Caldanu tower, on Corsica’s Balagne coast.

Reports gave his age as either 63 or 65, and said his family was nearby when they raised the alarm at about 5 p.m.

Rescue teams from Calvi, L’Île-Rousse and Bastia responded, along with emergency medical services.

Strong waves prevented rescuers from reaching him while he was in the water.

The SNSM recovered his body and took it to the commercial port of Calvi.
