Mexico’s PAN demands IMSS chief Zoé Robledo resign

On November 6, 2026, health officials appeared before Mexico’s Chamber of Deputies to answer questions about the country’s health services.

The opposition National Action Party, or PAN, demanded that IMSS chief Zoé Robledo resign, blaming him for problems at the social security institute.

PAN lawmakers said the hearing’s format restricted their ability to question officials about medicine shortages, hospital problems and public spending.

The session began with a dispute after PAN lawmaker Éctor Jaime Ramírez Barba was denied the floor, and PAN members also objected to people in uniform applauding officials.

Ramírez Barba said the number of people without access to health services rose from 20 million in 2018 to 44.5 million in 2024, while families’ out-of-pocket spending increased by 41% in real terms.

The hearing exposed a dispute over health-system performance and accountability, but the account gives no outcome or next step.
