Lula to ask Brazil’s electoral court to open his bank records
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva says he will seek access to his bank records by asking the Superior Electoral Court to lift their confidentiality.
He says the request will also cover his family, including his five children and his wife.
Lula says the move is meant to answer accusations against his family during the presidential campaign.
The announcement came after a Sunday debate with Flávio Bolsonaro, his opponent in Brazil’s presidential runoff, where the candidates traded corruption allegations.
Lula challenged Bolsonaro to disclose his own records and those of his relatives; Bolsonaro had earlier said he had nothing to hide but did not say whether he accepted.
Lula says he will submit the authorization to the court on Tuesday, ahead of the runoff vote scheduled for Sunday, October 25.
