Oklahoma loses season opener to East Texas A&M, 68-64

Oklahoma lost 68-64 to East Texas A&M in its men’s basketball season opener at home in Norman.

The Sooners had been heavy favorites, and the result was described as one of the biggest upsets in Division I basketball in 30 years.

Oklahoma made 15 turnovers and missed 15 free throws, while East Texas A&M made six more three-pointers.

Oklahoma also played without star point guard Xzayvier Brown, who was ruled out about an hour before the game, but Moser said the team still should have won.

Moser apologized to Oklahoma fans and said he would review the team’s decisions and work to improve its play.

The loss could hurt Oklahoma’s chances of reaching the NCAA Tournament if it is on the selection bubble, and the Sooners next host Mississippi Valley State on Friday, Nov.

We tried to make a comeback, but being on our heels and playing not to lose. Not good enough. That's on me.

Should we have won? Yes. We should have found a way to win.
