Japanese firms offer personalized bath products and training

Japanese companies are offering more ways to personalize bathing as colder weather arrives.

In Tokyo, Gifu-based YoungVenus has opened a shop where visitors can try hand baths and choose from more than 100 bath additive combinations of scent, color and texture.

Other companies sell bath products using local ingredients, including lavender and birch sap from Hokkaido and oils from fruit grown in Kyushu.

In September, Chiba-based Bathlier launched an online bath sommelier certification exam covering bathing history, regional customs, etiquette and water conditions.

The company wants graduates to use what they learn to promote bathing culture in daily life and at work, including by recommending bathing methods or designing bathing spaces.

YoungVenus also plans to suggest seasonal baths and hold workshops to share the enjoyment of bathing.
