Turkish court acquits Aleyna Kalaycıoğlu and sentences Alaattin Kadayıfçıoğlu to life

Footballer Kubilay Kaan Kundakçı was killed in a shooting in Istanbul’s Ümraniye district on March 19.

The 21-year-old was in a car with musician Vahap Canbay and others outside a studio, where singer Aleyna Kalaycıoğlu was.

The shooting followed an alleged attempt to reconcile between Canbay and Kalaycıoğlu, who had previously separated.

Prosecutors brought charges against 10 people over the killing and related actions.

The court acquitted Kalaycıoğlu and sentenced Alaattin Kadayıfçıoğlu to life in prison for intentional murder.

The reports do not say whether the verdict will be appealed.
