Abascal seeks a majority to become Spain’s prime minister
Vox leader Santiago Abascal says he is running to become Spain’s prime minister, not to serve as deputy to a government led by the conservative People’s Party.
He made the statement at a rally in Palma, Mallorca, on Saturday, where he called for a large majority in the 29 November general election.
Abascal said Vox’s priorities include reducing regulation, prioritising Spanish nationals and what he called “remigration.”
He also promised to end taxes on tips received by hospitality workers and said pensions would continue to be paid.
The rally in Palma took place peacefully, after clashes at a Vox event in Mahón on Friday; Abascal urged supporters to avoid provocations.
Voters will choose Spain’s next government on 29 November, and Abascal said he believes his party can win.
