DSW raises monthly health insurance premium by €14.75 for 2027
Dutch insurer DSW will raise its basic premium to €173.25 a month in 2027, up €14.75.
That is the largest increase in euros so far, but not the largest percentage rise: the increase is 9.3%, compared with 10% in 2011.
DSW says higher care costs, wages and hospital energy bills, along with growing demand for care, are behind the rise.
The insurer says cuts to the national care budget were not included in the government’s estimate of a €12.50 monthly increase.
The monthly health care allowance will rise by €11, so it will not fully offset the premium increase.
The number of people with unpaid premiums reported to the CAK has reached 200,000, up from 172,000 in 2022.
Other insurers must announce their 2027 premiums by 12 November, and their rates are usually close to DSW’s.
DSW will raise its basic health insurance premium by €14.75 per month to €173.25 in 2027, a 9.3% increase.
The insurer says rising healthcare costs, higher wages, hospital energy bills and greater demand for care are driving the increase.
DSW says a cut to national funding for some care was not included in the government’s estimate of a €12.50 monthly increase.
The increase is larger than the rise in healthcare benefit payments, which are set to grow by €11 a month.
Reports differ on whether the 9.3% increase is a record: NU.nl calls it one, while NOS says the 2011 increase of 10% was higher.
